Prenatal Yoga

WEDNESDAY EVENINGS, 6:15 - 7:30 PM

You are: a pregnant person.

You want: a customized yoga class taught by an experienced prenatal yoga teacher.

You’ll get: that and a priceless chance to connect with other expecting parents—think future playgroup! At the end of class, people say: “See you next week, unless I have the baby!”

Every class will begin with a brief check-in, so you can get to know your fellow attendees on the path of pregnancy. After that, we’ll move and breathe through a prenatal yoga practice, safe for all trimesters of pregnancy. We’ll end class with rest and stillness.

Preregistration is required. Carrboro Yoga offers drop-in classes, unlimited or 5x a month membership options, or a 10 class pass, so the price per class ranges from $15 - $30 a class, depending on how you sign up.

*This class is co-taught by Mary, who alternates week to week with the Prenatal Yoga teaching staff at Carrboro Yoga.

Prenatal Yoga

Through physical movement, breathing, and relaxation techniques, prenatal yoga will keep your body strong and flexible, improving your posture, circulation, and digestion while increasing your energy and reducing stress.  Regular yoga practice will help alleviate common aches and discomfort like nausea, fatigue, back pain, and anxiety, among others.  Classes are open to healthy people in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.  No previous yoga experience necessary.  Celebrate your pregnancy through yoga, deepen your connection to yourself, your baby, and other expectant parents.

Class takes place at the Levin JCC located in Durham at 1937 W Cornwallis Rd, Durham, NC 27705.

8 WEEK SERIES, NEXT SESSION Begins September 11

As mothers, we spend so much time and energy nurturing our little ones. In this series, YOU will be nurtured.  We'll move in ways that facilitate healing and bring balance back to your body. You will strengthen areas that might have been weakened during pregnancy, such as your abdominals, spine and pelvic floor, and relax areas of the body that become stiff as you care for your little ones.  You'll also have the opportunity to connect to other mothers, and share the joys and challenges of parenthood.

Postnatal Core Restore

Wednesday afternoonS, 12:00 - 1:00 PM

Re-connect with your mind, body & spirit after giving birth. This Postnatal Yoga class will be offered as a slow flow with an emphasis on core connection - including core strengthening, pelvic floor rehabilitation & back body stability. You can expect a class that encourages mindful strength-building alongside soothing & supportive stretching. Class is appropriate for birthing people 6 weeks or more postpartum who have experienced any type of birth. Your baby is welcome to attend class with you, but class will not be led as Baby & Me Yoga.

Baby & Me Yoga

THURSDAY MORNINGS, 11:30 AM - 12:15 PM

Baby & Me Yoga (Ages 0-11 months + Caregiver) is a time for baby and caregiver to connect, move and breathe together. Class will always include a check-in, followed by caregiver focused movement, baby focused movement, and relaxation. 

This class is most appropriate for infants who are not yet mobile. Infants who can roll over and/or sit up on their own, or who have just started crawling are also a great fit!

Toddler & Me Yoga

THURSDAY MORNINGS, 10:00 - 10:45 AM

Yoga Together (Ages 1-4 + Caregiver) brings mindfulness and yoga to toddlers in a fun and playful way. Doing yoga with your toddler is a powerful way to instill confidence and model healthy habits.

This class is designed for toddlers, but even younger yogis will benefit from this practice as well. Is your child pulling up and exploring mobility on two feet? Are they a fast crawler and interested in movement? Are they curious about other people who are moving? This class is the right fit for your little yogi!

Stroller Walk Meet Up

Move your body & meet up with other new parents! We will start with a connection circle/check-in, followed by some light stretching & a brisk walk. Class will end with a combination of breathwork, meditation and/or light stretching.

Sunrise Yoga

TUESDAY & Thursday MORNINGS, 7:00 - 7:45 AM

Send the day with yoga to raise your prana! Awaken your senses by creating heat through sun salutations. Then you'll add some standing balances, core strengthening and a dash of twisting and back bending to round out your morning practice. This class is suitable for all levels.

Laura is trained (through the WMY teacher training) to work with prenatal & postnatal folks, so if you’re looking for a “regular” yoga class to attend at any stage of your parenthood journey, this might be the right fit!

Restore Yoga

IN PERSON AT SOLSTICE YOGA IN DURHAM

Wednesday Evenings, 7:30 - 8:30 PM

Restore is a floor-based practice that promotes release and relaxation through gentle and passive poses, supported by a range of props including bolsters, blankets, and blocks. Poses are held for extended periods to encourage the body and the nervous system to find a sense of calm.  Your teacher will demo a range of options for you to find your most comfortable position. Guided meditation and breathwork are offered throughout class.  This class is open to all levels. While this class is not intentionally heated, the studio space will feel warm like it's ~85°F. A note from Laura on heated classes:

For heated classes, I welcome pregnant folks in the 2nd & 3rd Trimester, especially if you are a regular practitioner. Heated classes are not reccomended for pregnant folks in the 1st Trimester & those currently trying to conceive. Postpartum folks are welcome in any heated class.

Heated Yin Yoga

IN PERSON AT SOLSTICE YOGA IN DURHAM

Sunday Evenings, 5:00 - 6:15 PM

Yin -- A floor-based practice focused on deep tension release through longer holds and deep relaxation A gentle class that uses gravity to soften and unwind the body's resistant connective tissues. Every posture will be guided with options to deepen into the stretch or feel supported by props for relaxation. With a blend of breathwork, meditation, and yoga philosophy, our Yin class offers a peaceful place to unwind your thoughts and release the tension stored in the layers of connective tissues surrounding your hips, shoulders, and spine. All levels. Class is heated between 90°F-95°F. A note from Laura on heated classes:

For heated classes, I welcome pregnant folks in the 2nd & 3rd Trimester, especially if you are a regular practitioner. Heated classes are not reccomended for pregnant folks in the 1st Trimester & those currently trying to conceive. Postpartum folks are welcome in any heated class.
